Work=Reward – why this equation is important?

As human beings we all work, no matter the size of the work, the postion of the work, the time duration of the work, regradless of these factors. In todays time our work defines us, people judge us based on what we do. According to our work they decide how much respect they should give to us. Now the question arises…..What is Work?

Work:

It is a mental or physical or both, type of activity or activities done to achieve something. By the way, Work has various definitons and meanings. But I am taking this one for the ease of my discussion. In order to know the other definitons you can click this link.

Some are working in the field of business for the betterment of the country’s economy. While others are working in the field of politics to make people’s lives easy and to make society a place worth living in. Some are working as teachers educating the younger generation providing them with knowledge so that one day they can have the abilitity to change the world or make the world a better place. In order to keep us safe from any types of diseases or health related problems Doctors are working. The maids they take care of our household so that we can work. The police and lawyers are there to protect us from injustice.

The Wheel:

If you look closely all our works are connected with one another and depends on one another for successful execution. Businesses make the economy strong, politicians use that economy to implement various policies to make citizens life easier. In order to make sure that the citizen’s are getting those policies we need law hence the court and police. But you won’t be able to make your economy strong or find ways to use the economy to implement various polices to mkae citizen’s life easier if you dont have the knowledge.

And this knowlege is provided by none other than the teachers. We won’t be able to do all these if we are sick so doctors make sure we are healthy. Last but not least we won’t be able to go out of our house if we are stuck with housework. So maids make sure to take care of the house. It is like a wheel.

The misconception about Work:

Now some are in a very high level positon and also some are very low level position, these are the designations created by us. But in truth all work are important and all the work that I mentioned above are contributing to the society. So all work are equal. No work is big, no work is small afterall together they create the wheel which is spinning. If the if wheel is not round means if all work are not equal then it won’t spin. Yet we distinguish them based on what?…..based on Reward.

Reward:

The ‘something’ that I mentioned in the definition of work is ‘Reward’. This Reward can be anything from money to recognition. Or praise from the person for whom we did the work, even the result of our work can give us immense happiness, satisfaction and pleasure. So Reward is very important. If you work you don’t just deserve but need a Reward. It has two basic categories Monetary and Non-Monetary reward. Monetary means money and non monetary means praise, recognition etc, Without Reward we won’t be able to continue working. Even if we try to by getting motivated our mind won’t let us. Because our mind is programmed in a way that says Work equals Reward. I have discussed it in one of my previous posts. Which is means if you do something you need something in return.

The give and take policy:

Nothing is free, I think from this the phrase came the ‘give and take policy’. Which means “I am giving you our work and in return you give me Reward”. There is a concept that mind work (like desk jobs) and physical work (like labour jobs) are different and that physical work does not involve the mind but only the body. This is not correct. Physcial work means using our body, and the body is made of muscles. And every muscle of our body is controlled by our mind so without our mind satisfied we won’t be able to work.

Work Reward equality

Link between Work and Reward:

In here with the help of few examples I will explain the link between Work and Reward. A student works hard to get good marks, for the student the work is study and good marks is reward. If that student does not get it in the end, it will affect the student mentally, which is never good. But the good marks is the final reward, over the course of his study he needs some form of rewards like praises or recognitions for how hard he is studying.

Same goes for the employee who is woking hard in a company. That employee needs a reward no matter how small or big it is. The reward is not for the result that employee delivers but for him or her to keep working hard. Most of the time final reward is usually monetary (money) like a bonus, a tip, an incentive, for students its good marks. But for them to reach that point, they need to Work and for them to constantly work, they need Reward (non-monetary), which is usally praises or recognition or both.

Conclusion:

The word ‘Overworked’, actually it does not mean we are working beyond our capacity. It is just an illusion created by our mind because it is not satisfied with the Reward we are getting. But thankfully people are now realising the true worth of their work, and around the world they are making sure they get equal Reward to the Work they have done. That is why so many human rights organizations, various worker unions were created both in work places and in society so that those who Work hard can get something in return in exhange for that work. ‘In exachange’ means equal to the work one has done, nothing less. But does it actually happen in reality….absolutely not. But I think more and more people should be aware of it. Because if this inequality conitnues people will stop working entirely one day and it can happen globally.
