Wolves are pack animals and hunters, they do everything together from living to eating to hunting. But there are exceptions to that. Sometimes a wolf for various reasons might leave the pack and start operating on it’s own, that wolf is usually known as a lone wolf.
Lone Wolf Personality:
But here I am not going to talk about the animals but about us, humans. Even among us, we see individuals who prefer to be alone, don’t like large crowds and avoid company. They like to do things on their own, be it their own work or living on their own etc. You may have heard this word a lot, it is quite popular on the internet, “Sigma Male”. These male types are also considered Lone Wolfs’. But not only men but women can also have this type of personality.
Sigma Male Personality:
Let me tell you in short what a Sigma Male is! Sigma Male is a person who doesn’t follow rules set up by society or hierarchy of workplace. They choose their own work and the way they want to live, they don’t let anyone else decide these things for them. While this might come off as arrogant or anti social, but in reality they are highly confident about themselves and their skillset. Confidence is essential part of our lives, be it when we are at home or outside and skillset is one of the most important component to be successful. For this reason only they don’t need others to function, unlike Alpha Males.
Alpha vs Sigma:
Two most popular male types on the internet are Alpha Males and Sigma Males. While both of them are highly confident and skilled individuals. One thing that separates Alphas from Sigmas, is that they (Alphas) need recognition and praise to boost their ego. Alpha males are mostly extroverts so they prefer large crowds and always want to be the center of attention, while Sigmas are mostly introverts or ambieverts.
Some qualities of Lone Wolf individuals are:
1. Independent-
Independence means they are not dependent on anyone or anything. They do what they like or think is right without thinking about other’s opinions and doesn’t need others help. Which means they prefer solitude, they feel that people will slow them down to reach their goal.
2. Highly Efficient-
Second is they are highly efficient, it is hard to pin point the age but from very early of their life, they are curious and has a thirst for knowledge, that makes them highly efficient in things that they are interested in. Because of this trait they are great problem solvers and good advisers.
3. Introversion-
Third is introversion, as mentioned before, they love solitude so they acquire knowledge and skills unnoticed by others, sometimes even their closed ones. They feel content with themselves and their emotions. They love their own company and spend most of their time doing things they are curious about. Unlike Alphas who boast about things they are good at and always share anything and everyhing new with their social circle. One of the other reasons they are introverted because not many in this world can keep up with their mental and emotional growth. And after a certain time when those people leave that deeply hurts these individuals. So they feel happy alone most of the time.
4. Emotional Maturity-
Fouth quality is emotional maturity. When we are alone, our mind starts to speak means we can hear our thoughts more clearly so we learn about ourselves what we like, what we dislike. What can make us angry, what makes happy, that makes Lone Wolfs’ much more emtionally matured than others and gives them a practical view of themselves which in turn help them to navigate through the world because we judge or understand everything and everyone by comparing them to us. All these is impossible when you are in a group or spend a lot of your waking hours around people, because then you are not listening to yourself but listening to others.
5. Great Observation Skills-
Fifth is great observation skills. Because of this trait they are very analytical and can see patterns in everything. It is not a quality that is seen only in Lone Wolfs’ but also seen in people who stay quiet most of the time or are introverts. And since Lone Wolf individulas are introverts by nature, they have an uncanny ability to read the room and people in that room. They acquire much more experience of the world because of their solitary nature and that experience makes their intuition stronger. While being alone means they have already mastered the power of overthinking and knows how to use it to their advantage.
But as all great things, this Lone Wolf trait also has some downsides. If you are a lone wolf, it is quite normal you may not feel the things I am about to mention below as downsides. But in my opinion they are some major downsides.
Downsides of being a Lone Wolf:
All the the things that I have mentioned above have a negative impact on Lone Wolf individuals.
Being alone is good but if someone does it for a long time, they can develope social anxiety and anti-social behaviour. If any situation force them to be with a group, that will stress them out and they won’t be able to properly communicate with the group.
Because they are highly efficient they develope a type of arrogance and as we all know with time situations change. We all need people from time to time to help us out and that one man army concept is a delusion. If they are in a situation where their abilities aren’t enough to get the job done, they won’t ask for help because they don’t know how to ask.
Controlling your overhtinking and using it as your superpower is great but the path is also the hardest to walk on. All those painful memories, re-living them, confronting your inner darkness, in order to know what type of person you are, is not easy. That is why most of people don’t even have a friction of an idea of who they are! Because we are afraid to know our trueselves.
Another thing is, these individuals possess a lot of wisdom and various talents. Because they develope them in silence nobody knows about them. When in a crowd they behave like an ordinary person. Which in my opinion is not right, because their advice can help a lot of people who are in trouble. I am not saying help every person you meet on the street, because that would be absurd. Also because many of us don’t always need help from others. But they can atleast help the people who are close to them and are in need, but they don’t. Because they believe that no one will be able to understand their words, so they stay quiet.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, I would like to say good and bad are parts of life and everything related to life. Those who have Lone Wolf personalities, they did not develope it on their own. Sometimes our surroundings, people around us, force us to become something that we never want to be. As even mentioned in the very word ‘Lone Wolf’, these people can also feel lonely sometimes. But they choose to be alone because they know if they open up, everyone will misunderstand them and that is why they guard themselves with an aloof exterior. But if some fortunate one can pierce through that shell, they will meet an individual, who is one of its kind!
Thank you for staying until the end!
