Don’t Expect Much From Life

You want it to go in one direction, but it goes in another

Life is so precious, right?

I mean it gives us so many things, helps us see different parts of the world and sometimes, as a concession, asks for a sacrifice. Which is also for the betterment, I think, at least in the long term.

But one thing life makes sure we don’t expect anything from it.

As absurd as it sounds, it’s a fact. It will give you what you deserve or what it thinks you deserve in its own time, and take the things away from you even if you think you deserve them.

Whether it is right or wrong, that is a different matter, but if you pay close attention to this, you will see this pattern!

Now the question is

Is it that simple? I mean, not expecting.

I think part of the reason that makes us humans is that we have expectations of a lot of things, from people to situations. As these very expectations help us move, live to fight another day and be hopeful about tomorrow.

But life specifically asks us not to have it. Or if you go a little deeper, it asks us to work for it. Having an expectation and living it to fate and destiny, and believe me, even I do it sometimes, is not gonna yield any results.

As you are placing the outcome of that expectation in life’s hands.

So next time, after developing an expectation, start laying down the groundwork for it and give it your best.

I am not going to give you false hope that it works every time. Because it doesn’t.

But what separates it from mere expectations is that you go home with a sense of fulfillment.

That you gave your best. Which means no regret, no notions of what if!

The reason we feel down is not when our expectations are not met, but when we fail to do what is needed to be done. The true fulfilment comes from within, and loss comes when we fail in our own eyes.

I know that this story does not actually provide a step-by-step guide or a solution. But step-by-step guides are for linear patterns, and life is anything but linear.

So all we can do is be proactive about it and keep on fighting, as that is also a sense of solution in its own right.

Thank you for staying until the end!
