Those who are a fan or even know about the series called The Vampire Diaries and its spin-off The Originals are familier with Elijah Mikaelson. 

In the TVP we only got to see the shades him (mostly negative shades). But in TO we get the delightful oportunity to see Elijah in his full glory. But one thing that remained the same with his character is that he is a cent percent family man and can and will do anything for his family. 

We live for 80 years (by some good luck) and we had hundreds and thousands of broken bonds and bad blood with our family but this man has been alive for more than 1000 years yet put his family past.

Fictional character with Real Life Qualities

You can point out the fact that he is a fictional character so it is easy for him and I totally agree. But it is not about what type of man he is but what he inspire us to be. 

The thing is, it is not only about family, but staying true to your goal of life. 

It is hard to stay focused on one goal because there are so many distractions are out there. So many sweet distractions so why put up with a bitter and sour goal, just leave it and be done with it. 

But through two series and dozens of episodes we see that Elijah doesn’t stray away from his goal even we had chances. I think this is one of the things we can take from him. 

In this post I am going to point out the things that I learned from Elijah Mikaelson. Despite being a fictional character he helped me developed some qualities in me which I like to believe are positive. 

Qualities of Elijah Mikaelson

Being a man of his word

Elijah is known for being the honourable one. Means if he promises something he will fulfill his end no matter what. Friends, family and even enemies rely on him when he gave his word. 

Holding onto your words during better times is easy but when situations get tough we usually tend to get out of it, but brings out weaknesses of our character. While promises kept till the end is the sign of a poweful individual no matter the cicumstances.

Strong but Just

Elijah is one of the Original Vampire, Thousand year old and this long life blessed him with wisdom. And being a Original means he is the strongest vampire not only among other vampires but among his siblings too (Klaus excluded).

Strong people usually do what they want with thinking about the consquences, but Elijah isn’t like that he has a strong sense of justice (though sometimes linent towards his famlily). He shows compassion and forgivness to weaker beings.

Predictable yet Unpredictable

Because of his honourable and just nature if you think you have figured out Elijah Mikaelson then you will get your heart ripped out. Many have made the mistake, thinking that they can fool him by acting. But it did not play out well for them, because no one knows what goes inside that honourable one’s head.

We see it happen in our life too. Good people get crushed down becuae otehr thinks then can’t take a stand for themselves. But this is the most false concept. If a good person take a stand, no one can bring them down.

Looking at the bigger picture

In every season the Mikaelson family was facing new threats. While other members were focusing on how to handle today’s problem Elijah was thinking how to solve the problem all together. Building alliances, gathering information and constanly putting pressure on his enemies are all the things Elijah’s been doing.

In order to excute so many tasks and managing so many people at the same time takes a visinoary who may not see the picture but can shape it to their liking. We all suffer from this problem. Sometimes we focus so much on day to day hussle that we forget why we started these hussles in the first place.

Calm and Calculative

In pressure Elijah is calm and calculative. He does not make any sudden moves. Calmly and quickly he assess every situation, while planning his action and weighting that action’s success and failure rate at the same time.

These type of mindset takes a lot of time to develope and still many of us can’t execute this type of thinking while under pressure.

Hobbies build half your Character

Having hobbies or favourite activies are very important to develope your character. Elijah has many hobbies like playing various muscial instruments, reading and sometimes training.

We all should have some of hobbies, like sport or some type of adventure or indoor activities like writing or drawing. It is not only a good pass time but makes us interesting to others.

Mainting Yourself 

Appearce speaks about you even before you open your mouth. Elijah is a gentleman he doesn’t say it but his appearce says it for him. Neat hairstyle ironed suit and shiney shoes, not only showcases his shrap personality but builds a sophisticated atmosphere around him.

Letting people know who’s in charge in a composed manner

Sometimes you meet people who just don’t know their place. Mostly it shouldn’t matter to you but when they rub their incompetence on your face you need to show them who is the superior one. But the question is How?

Fight is always not the only option rather it should be used unless the other party use it first. Elijah is a good example on how to put people in their respective place be it family memebrs friends or even foes.

Not Demanding but Commanding Respect

You shout to others so that they can show you repect, bow in front of you. Will it work? Ofcourse not! Respect can’t be demanded it needs to earned. And not everyone will respect you, you should make peace with this fact. While those who does, does it for various different reasons. 

So stay true to your charactes and people will automatically get attacted to you. Same way Elijah does it. Qualities like keeping promises, doing justice, giving good advice and showing leadership skills are some of the reasons why others respect Elijah. 

Ultimate Family Man

It is very important to put Family above all no matter what. It is completely fine if you have internal feud with family members or you struggle with your family. But never let any outsider interfere with your family affair and don’t show them any sign that gives them the audacity to show interest in your family matter. 

Your family problems and happiness are between you and your family. It is no one’s concern, and bringing outsiders into family matters will only create more reaf in the family. Elijah Miakelson live by this rule.

Conclusion

Elijah Mikaelson wasn’t loved by everyone and he couldn’t care less about it. There were times his own family hated him but he never stop being the man he was. I think that speaks a lot about his character. 

He is one the examples that love is temporary but respect is paramount. So make sure people respect you even when they are not loving you or admiring you.

Elijah Mikaelson is a male character and I am, the writer of this article is also male. But I would like to point out that regardless of our gender, we can learn from him.
