The word ‘Hope‘ means expecting positive things. This positive thing can be about the future or any type of outcome or life in general. It won’t be wrong to say Hope is the driving force of human beings. Hope gives birth to motivation which gives humans the energy to do daily chores.
Birth of Hope:
How hope is born inside of us? While the question does not have a precise answer but I can bring forward some of my personal theories. When we set a goal, see a dream and able to plan the way to reach that goal or dream, that is the moment when hope is born. Another is when everything fall into place the way we image it would be and because of that our lives become easier this is the time when hope is born. Third one is little bit supernatural, when something just suddenly happens and it helps us in some way, we say that god or some supernatural power helped us because we have done some good deeds.
Now staying hopeful means that the anticipated outcome will occur in reality, in other words maintaining a postive mindset regardless of what happens around you. And hopeless is when you think negatively about future and fall into dispair which affects your daily activities as a result.
The Reality:
Truth is in life more than hopeful, we face hopeless situations. Even in a day you can easily notice that if one thing happens in your favour the other ten will happen against you. Even you might have done this, after waking up if the first thing that happened to you is positve you become hopeful that the rest of day will go good as well. But does it happen? No. It is a nature of human mind to indulge itself into the negative thoughts more than the positive ones. This is the reason we feel hopeless most of the time.
That is why so many postive thinking, postive thoughts related articles and videos are out there. As more than half of humans suffer from this.
This post of mine focuses on staying hopeful even during hopelss days.
Difference Between Hopelessness and Failure:
In one of my previous articles I had share how to overcome and endure Failure. Hopelessness and failure, two of these things might seem the same but there is a huge difference. Failure is more of a result of our actions while hopelessness is a state of mind. One can avoid failure if he doesn’t do anything new or risky that has never been tried before. If a person stick to the usual routine, there is a greater possibility of avoiding failure.
On the other hand Hopelessness is born from our negative mindset, how we are viewing a particular situation, comapring ourselves to others and many other things can cause hoplessness. We have to get up and do our basic tasks, while excuting these tasks we can feel it at anytime, no only this but a particular conversation even as small as a movie scene can cause hopelessness. Which is why it can’t be avoided.
Ways to Stay Hopeful:
Believe in Yourself:
When you feel like nothing is working out in your favour believe in yourself. Realize that you have come a long way since you were born. You faced tough situations before, fell into despair and then rise above it. Your whole life you have been doing it, so you can do it now. You don’t need help or advice from someone because you are your biggest example. Remind youself how good of a fight you put in the past and overcame obstacles that came in your way.
Focus on the Future:
This always works for me whenever I am overwhelmed about any situation. Some believe focusing too much on future will cause more overthinking, but that is when you are thinking negatively. If you envision the future you want to have, buying your favourite car, spending time with your loved one, traveling to your favourite place without any restrictions. It will definitely put a smile to your face. Also these postive thoughts will make you hopeful again.
Accept the Difficult Times:
When you accept things you save yourself a lot of time and some trouble. The more you deny a problem the more you mind will indulge in to the problem to make you realize about its existence. Because negative things affects our body in a negative way. And our mind can’t process the problem unless you give it the order. So it keeps hitting you with the problem until you order it to find a solution. And the moment you accept that you are going through some difficult times you mind will start working on the solution. And believe me it feels much better working on the solution than over analyzing the problem.
Plan and Keep Track:
This is one of the perfecct ways to avoid the feeling of hoplessness altogether. When you want something, plan it throughly. Some break down their goals or dreams into steps, while others break them down into specific tasks to be done in specific dates. Do whatever works for you. Planning and then ticking them off when you have completed parts of your plan will give you a sense of accomplishment.
Pray:
Pray is a broad category. Some pray to god while others just meditate to become one with their innerselves. I like to think praying is more like channeling positive thoughts throughout your body. Do what best for you, if talking to a invisible force helps you feel better do it, it helps me. Or if just sitting in a yoga position and sychronizing you breathing does the trick for you that is also fine. The most important thing is to get your thoughts straight.
Conclusion:
In conclusion I would like to point out, we have the freedom of choice. Sometimes we think we are a lost cause, we have nothing to live for but I want to say these are the choices we are making for ourselves. Half of our hopelessness comes from our own mindset, and I know that changing ones mindset is not easy. After all it had developed since we were a child but even if you have one good thing in your life hold onto that. Because I believe that one thing is your hope and can show you the light in the dark times.
Thank you for staying until the end!
